Loose Associates is a duo from South Bend, IN, playing music in the range of folk, Americana, indie, and a little punk. Bringing a real feel to the experience of living in the working class and imagining a livable future.
Playing together since February 2023, Sophia Wilson and Mark Anella take inspiration from legends like Gillian Welch, Waxahatchee, and I’m with Her, and use their guitar and banjo to weave story telling and activism into their music.
Loose Associates delves into themes of liberation, political and environmental activism, love, mutual aid, personal freedom, and community building through vignettes of personal experience set to beautiful, fun, and whimsical melodies. They invite their audience to seek their own truths, understand the world critically, and embrace their local communities.
On the eve of releasing their own debut album, they have also worked with other Indiana midwest staples, ‘BEE! The Band,’ and ‘Tedward and Friends,’ on a collaborative record, set to release late spring 2026, and two anti-ICE Christmas singles, respectively. Mark also has a collection of solo albums and EPs under his name, available on all streaming platforms.
The duo has also had the pleasure of being featured as the spotlight artist on 88.1 WVPE Wild Rose Moon Radio Hour with Mike Vial and the Great Lake Effect.
They are occasionally joined by loose associates, JP Pelton on the fiddle, and Isaac Fisher on the bass.
